The purpose of having a Police Force is so that it protects the people of the community at which it is based. Anything less than the above, amounts to incomptetency as the citizens arent being granted their right to be protected by this state organ. We have had numerous incidents of our South African (SA) police being exposed for their less than desirable demeanour. This has to be halted and ultimately stopped. Our current police authorities including their predecessors are and have been accused respectively of undue underperformance. Officers know the procedures that need to be followed whenever a criminal act is committed and a disregard thereof spells corruption and negligence. We need to establish why some crimes which are committed within our police federal structures go unnoticed and yet others are brought to light. Our current Police commissioner, Riah Phiyega, is facing serious allegations of corruption in that she is alleged to have intentionally and unreasonably gotten rid of a plaintiff and their reported intelligence in a case which was levelled directly at her. This action implies that she has immunity from being charged by the SA law. If Westminster, at the height of world order in 2006, was able to allow its then ruling Labour Party personnel to be openly investigated for being suspected of corruption, what gives the SA legal bodies the idea that they are untouchable? Our South African Police Service Act No. 68 of 1995, Chapter 13 - Offences, Section 67 - Interference with members, subsection 2 (a), keeps us in line with the international prerequisites of policing agencies. It states: 2)Any person who- a)conspires with or induces or attempts to induce any member not to perform his or her duty or any act in conflict with his or her duty;... shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years. In addition to the malice thats dominating the police affairs, we are seeing a militarisation of our police force similar to the militsiya of Russia, which has been disbanded as of 2011. We seem to be the one regressing country in the free world in terms our law enforcement standards setting.
