The purpose of meditation. .....So, I tell you to ‘let go’, of your desire to control and manipulate everything. I explain how we all suffer from this particular human tendency and outline the problems that arise when we simply follow our impulses. As you hear these words you feel that you begin to understand, after all, the truth is not a secret, it is only the obvious. But your understanding comes from the rational mind and the intellect. You feel that what I say is true, and perhaps in a moment of inspiration you actually raise the intention to no longer follow the seemingly natural desire to control everyone and everything around you. But how do we actually do that? How do any of us break the habits of a lifetime? It is only meditation, that will do this, because only meditation will illuminate that place in the mind were all our desires and natural tendencies begin. Once we know their place of origin, we are in a position to do something about them. Namely, let them go. Stop attaching to them. Stop grasping them in the belief that they are really what we are, and recognise their true nature. Impermanent movements of mind, not ‘me’, not ‘mine’, not what ‘I am’. Let them go. Let them all go. Slowly, slowly we can allow the reservoir of ego and conceit to empty and permit the pure mind to manifest. There is no difference between the meditation and the teachings. They are like two hands that wash each other, cleansing each other and resulting in the purity that is wisdom. Wisdom is the result of true spiritual practice. Not blind faith and not belief. May all beings be happy.
