The question today is; why should children be dedicated to God? Most parents think that giving children material things is the way to bring them up. That is wrong. It is important that your child starts out right. Children are products of love, so what are you going to do with your child? Children need a good environment from home so that they will not succumb to peer pressure when they go out. As a parent, do you love God with all your heart? Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6 NKJV) You are the first Christian a child sees and knows. It is a holy duty for a parent to educate his/ her children. Parents have to act as spiritual guides to their children. When was the last time you let your children sit on your laps. You may say that you dont do it because of culture. When you are gone are your children going to take over your faith? Train up your child at the earliest possible time. When your child is grown up you cannot teach them anything. They will ask you where you were all this time. There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. (Job 1:1 NKJV) Why did God choose Abraham and not job to be the father of all nations? Job was a righteous man whereas Abraham came from an idol worshiping family. The answer lies in how they brought up their children. So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did regularly. (Job 1:5 NKJV) Job only came to God after the problem had arisen while Abraham taught his children before the problem occurred. Abraham educated his children and Job did not. Do you instruct your children to follow you? Can you tell your children to follow you as you follow Jesus? The younger the child the easier it is to build character. An older child is like a tree whose trunk has already hardened; when you try to bend it you will break it. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. (Psalms 127:4 NKJV) Once an arrow is shot there is no control over it. So it is with a parent who never controls his children. Any child on earth can attain the greatest heights when given proper guidance. Doing wrong, no one teaches you, but doing right you have to be taught. As a parent you got to be concerned about your childs environment. When it comes to schooling, use your energy and resources to the maximum. You dont put a price on education. Make sure your child gets the best education. If you want to be at peace with your child, take care of them so that in old age they are secure. Nothing that grows wild is beneficial. Never be satisfied with the cheap substitute for the best. What you think is beneficial now will cost you in the long run. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. (Proverbs 11:30a NKJV) The fruit is the child that you will leave when you are gone. People in a sense continue to leave through their children. You also should continue living through your children. Children should follow the footsteps of their parents. Your values are going to be known when you are gone through your children. Those who are planted in the house of the LORD Shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing, (Psalms 92: 13-14 NKJV) when you teach your children values of the bible your children will be the continuation of you. Are there Christian values in your home? Do you love your child as yourself? Does your child have doubts about your love? Have you taught your child to love and obey? Your manner of life should draw your child to Jesus like a magnet. Parents must first be right with God then their children will be right with God. When children dont go to church they will end up making terrible mistakes.
