The quote at the end of this post is what Zimbabwe Professional Cricketers Association CEO Eliah Zvimba has said happened in a meeting he had with ZC and Ozias Bvute last week. If true it is shocking indictment against Wilson Manase and the Zimbabwe Cricket Board - if any other Board world wide treated their players association like this they would face a players revolt and be forced to resign. Mr Bvute and Mr Chingoka strenuously fought against players having their own association until I as Minister insisted that this fundamental right be respected. Every other Test nation has a players association and so it was ridiculous that ZC should not have one. The reason was of course because Messrs Bvute and Chingoka ruled through fear and divide and rule tactics - they ran ZC as an abusive father and husband dominates a submissive family. This kind of conduct is unacceptable and if Mr Wilson Manase doesnt move quickly to respect the Constitution and Laws of Zimbabwe he will lose credibility. Sections 51 (the right to dignity), 58 (right to freedom of association), 64 (freedom of profession) and 65 (the right of every employee to just, equitable and satisfactory conditions of employment) of the Constitution apply to Zimbabwe Cricket as much they do to any other entity. They apply to Mr Bvute as well even though he appears to think that he is above the law. This is what Mr Zvimba had to say: “Just as I got into the meeting, I spent close to 30 minutes at the receiving end of Bvute’s insults while the other members present remained quiet,” Zvimba said. “He (Bvute) told me had invested his own monies in ZC and that I was wasting my time talking to them about empowering the cricketers. He said ‘why would you want to give these boys money? They are not educated, they are not performing and now Zimbabwe is no longer a sellable brand, so why should we give them money? Right now you are losing in Bangladesh; you are no longer adding value to ZC.’” Zvimba further claims he was denied exit when he attempted to leave. “He shouted at me at the top of his voice and reduced me to nothing in that office, I just couldn’t stand it anymore so I tried to leave,” he said. “It was not a meeting; I was being bullied and denigrated. We all know how ZC treats people, it dreadful. But I’m not a child. I have an integrity to protect, I cannot be treated like that. “I told him (Bvute) that gone are the days when one can bully people around, you can’t do that to a professional like me.” During the meeting, Utseya was also said to be an unfortunate target of Bvute’s rant. dailynews.co.zw/articles/2014/11/28/ex-zc-boss-verbally-abused-me-players-rep
