The reading for October 25th is Jeremiah 51 -- Babylon will be destroyed, because Israel has not been forsaken; the Lord has raised up the Medes to destroy Babylon; the Lord has said this, and when He speaks it comes to pass; the Lord will make Babylon a desolation; it is time to thresh Babylon; the inhabitants of Zion call down a curse on Babylon; the Lord will carry it out; Babylon will become a wilderness; God will judge the gods of Babylon; the walls of Babylon will be broken down; Seraiah sent to Babylon with a message in which he was to bind a stone and throw it into the Euphrates river (ch 51); The New Testament reading is Hebrews 1:1-2:4 -- God has spoken in the past through prophets, and finally through his Son; he is the express image of God and upholds all things by the word of his power; compares the Son to the angels; the angels are ministering spirits; the Son is enthroned on high; the writer reasons that if we want to escape punishment then we should obey the words of salvation given to us by our Lord.
