The reason why Gazans rely on the Rafah border crossing into Egypt for traveling, is because there is no other way out of/into the Gaza Strip. If you want to leave Gaza to go anywhere in the world, you must exit through Rafah border crossing, and then make your way to your destination via Egypt. It is not a matter of choice; there is no other way. Thats why when Egypt closes Rafah border, that means 1.8 million Palestinians in Gaza cannot leave. One of the Palestinain factions demands for a lasting ceasefire with Israel is the reconstruction of Gaza International Airport (which was completely destroyed by Israeli bombing in 2001). Another demand is the construction of a Gaza Seaport. Im sure that those are two demands that Egyptian mediators would love to see granted as much as Palestinians. Of course, Israel has already refused both the reconstruction of Gaza International Airport and the construction of Gaza Seaport, leaving Gazans to rely solely on Rafah border crossing into Egypt for traveling. So, if anybody is to blame for Gazas reliance on the Rafah border crossing for traveling (other than its geographical location), it is Israel. If that is an inconvenience to Egypt, then by all means, those who are responsible for the situation (Israel) should be held accountable, not the people suffering from the situation (the Palestinian people of Gaza). ----------------------------------------------- The Palestinians also demanded an airport and seaport in addition to free passage between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
