The recent pronouncements by the PS, MOE, that the ministry intends to engage volunteer tutors for remediation and enrichment activities in schools as a way of cutting down on the overtime expenses will not only be a calamity and catastrophe to the already ailing education system of this country, but it also has the propensity to undermine and water down the integrity of the teaching profession. This we need to reject with the contempt that it deserves to protect not only the integrity of our profession, but also to guard jealously against the attack on the quality of education of this country.
