The release of degreasing agents and dry cleaning solvents to the subsurface commonly results in the creation of vapors that can enter houses and buildings through crawl spaces, cracks in the floor slabs and along utility corridors. Recently, a national standard for lending institutions was formally enacted which puts more focus on vapor intrusion as an element of the property due diligence and transaction requirement. The common occurrence of vapor intrusion and the new requirements to test for those conditions will undoubtedly lead to an increased need for vapor mitigation. While installing vapor mitigation systems is not very expensive, the long term monitoring and testing could be unexpected costs to any future development. It’s important to understand the impacts that the vapor intrusion may have on a new development when assessing vapor intrusion conditions. ow.ly/t5ToJ
