The right focus By Gary Rogers It is so easy to get preoccupied with the insignificant. Have you ever found yourself placing importance on things that really didn’t matter? Have you ever had an argument about something and after the confrontation subsided realized the source of the conflict was ridiculous? As Christians, our primary focus should be our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Yes, there are different activities and considerations with this life directive, but the real priority is our personal, up-to-date, strong, uncompromising love relationship with Jesus. It is from this relationship our lifestyle of worship flows. A newspaper article from a few years back told an incredibly tragic story. A wealthy family was celebrating the christening of their baby. They welcomed guests into their beautiful home. The people at the party were enjoying themselves with the best of food, drink and fellowship. The family had spared no expense in making this a special event. Then one of the guests asked an important question, “Where is the baby?” The mother ran to the master bedroom. She had left the baby sleeping there just prior to the arrival of the guests. In the middle of the massive bed was the baby — smothered to death by the pile of coats left there by the guests. We must not be caught up in the celebration and lose sight of Whom we are celebrating. We must not become driven with the doing and lose sight of why we are doing it. We must not so enjoy our forgiveness that we forget how we became saved. We must not become so focused upon the blessings of this life that where we are going becomes a blur. Jesus is the One we celebrate. Jesus is why we do what we do. Jesus is the price paid for our salvation. Jesus is where we are going. Jesus is the main thing!
