The rumor mill is churning at a feverish pace once again. Arizona Sports 98.7’s Doug Franz has reported that in a closed door meeting between Michigan State Athletic Director Mark Hollis, key alumni, and Head Basketball Coach Tom Izzo, it has been expressed that if MSU does not deliver a National Championship this year, Izzo will be fired. It has been no secret that Hollis has not been a supporter of Izzo since stepping in as the MSU Athletic Director in 2008 and after a string of disappointing and early tournament exits in the recent years, he and the alumni association are on their final straw. If Izzo is indeed fired, ASU remains the top school of choice for his services for the 2014-2015 season and beyond due to his strong family ties to the state and relationship with Ray Anderson. Reportedly, Izzo and Anderson have had ongoing conversations over the past 3 years regarding the opportunity to resurrect the ASU program and there is a strong likelihood that an announcement will be made as early as April.
