The sad truth aboout this, is that band councils is as much an wasichu term as Indian Act, and Blood Quantum, to name a few... It uses wasichu words, invented and used only to promote control and assimilation, through in-fighting and the dis-uniting of the People... Something called NEO-COLONIALISM... The white people always thought of themselves as superior, so it used a language of double talk and paternalistic words, etc., to make it sound like they were the parents, and the Indian, a little child, incapable of taking care of itself, hence wards of the state, like mentally retarded people who cannot even vote, or make decisions for themselves... So the Indian believed what the white folk told them about themselves, and they ended up becoming this image... This was the game from the get go... And anyone saying any different simply doesnt know his or her history... The Great Lie has always been there, and continues to be fed by ignorance, and by the People fighting amongst themselves over the petty stuff, rather than unifying and understanding the FOUNDATIONS of canada (and the united states) which are very obvious to anyone who does a little research... So today, what we have is the same song, only it is played with different instruments... The intent is always the same, the lack of remorse for the past is evident, and nothing has changed... A word like blood quantum, as you keep on fighting over this issue, was used to measure the amount of blood in animals, like horses or dogs... The Indian Act was written by the whites, used as a weapon by the whites, strictly for use in controlling the Indian, from start to finish... So what now? Is it not time to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH? More and more people are catching on to this intentional genocide/ethnic cleansing, as government(s) simply play a waiting game... In about 50 years or less, all the Traditionals, the ones who pose the REAL THREAT to them, will have died off, and if we do a real good job, the rest will simply have no interest in a Culture, that now looks like something from the past, with no one to even teach the language, or the Traditional ways of Life... Please, let us prove them wrong and teach them a thing or two about a Proud People, who lived as Sovereigns for thousands of years, each individual a Sacred Being, on the Land, their Mother, the One who Gave them Birth, and who Sustained them... because they Thanked Her for Her Gifts... The more the People go back and arm themselves with the Old Ways, the Prouder they will be, and the more the Ancestors will be behind them in Spirit.
