The saga of JJs Lucky Train This goes back several months and - TopicsExpress

The saga of JJs Lucky Train This goes back several months and concerns a horse named JJs Lucky Train. His plight was brought to my attention by a post on Jim Gaths page. JJ won a G-2 and placed in a few other stakes. He was your basic hard trier who slid down the claiming ranks as age and injury took its toll. We know all to many of these kinds of horses. Long story short, Jim and I I worked hard with lots of emails and phone calls to various people about getting JJ claimed. I offered to put up my own money and hand him over to TRAC or to Sierra Madre and even offered to buy JJ for more than the claiming price. I thought Pat Diers - who had somehow gotten in on the conversations, was part of a rescue organization. Anyway, JJ was claimed by Pat Diers or her sister - someone who I thought had planned to give him a good home where hed be re-trained or as a pasture buddy and that was the end of it. Not to be. Pat Diers posted a triumphant comment about how her sister will now be standing JJ at stud for around $1K or $2K. She gushed about how wonderful his pedigree and racing career was. Uhmmm.. not so fast. Many of you who know how I business know that I will give an honest fact-based opinion, even if it is detrimental to my pocket. On one side, I advise people on the buying, selling, claiming and breeding of horses. I take a sincere interest in the these horses, cheering success, lamenting setbacks, and 99.9% of my clients become good friends. Im also a strong advocate for responsible breeding, be it your horse, dog, cat or child. If you breed it, you take care of it. I donate 20% of my proceeds (probably more) to rescue groups around the country. So, learning that a broken down claimer with an average/poor pedigree and 2 stakes wins to his name will stand at stud - well, I just had to give an honest opinion based upon a review of JJs pedigree and race record. If JJ happens to become the next Malibu Moon or Danzig, well, great. Ill be wrong and admit it. Meanwhile, JJ will meet some mares, hopefully not many, and hopefully, the rescues like TRAC and Sierra Madre wont be called on to care for them. Thanks for reading.
