The sanctions issue gets worse and worse. If for one am not prepared to see hundreds of local people suffering from hunger, cold, homelessness and rags under the bureaucratic hell being inflicted by the Coalition government in their campaign of class hatred. Not in silence anyway. So, heres the first protest: https://facebook/events/537935012956021/ The leaflet is below or you can get it from Files above. Leaflet text below. As you can see Im proposing a noisy protest on the theme of not suffering in silence. I will get some printed off tomorrow, then make a start on distributing - aiming for widest possible publicity in advance. Anyone else who can print some off and get them around, please do. And please come if you can, obviously. TEXT OF LEAFLET SANCTIONS Approaching a million people a year are having essential benefits cut or stopped altogether by the Department of Work and Pensions. Unemployed people, disabled people, single parents, even people in part time work. Not because people don’t look for work; but because they can’t keep up with all the bureaucratic requirements imposed by the DWP to meet government targets. Sanctions are getting longer, harsher and more unfair every week. BENEFIT CUTS Sanctions come on top of benefit cuts which are reducing government help for people in and out of work, by over a quarter. Things like the bedroom tax, abolition of emergency help from the Social Fund, cuts to Housing Benefit and Tax Credits, the abolition of council tax benefit and the never ending attack on disabled people’s benefits being carried out by ATOS. HUNGER Many thousands – hundreds in Chester right now - are going hungry as a result and forced into food banks. Many are losing their homes. Criminals in prison are fed, clothed and housed. Why are we treating people without a job, people who are disabled, families with young children, worse than criminals because they have to claim benefits? PROTEST! People should not starve in silence in the seventh richest country in the world. Join the protest outside the DWP offices: Chantry House, City Road, Chester, 12-2, Tuesday 19th November BRING SOMETHING NOISY – PANS TO BANG, VUVUZELAS …
