The second day of an ongoing gratitude challenge, where I contemplate my life and what I am thankful for. Though there are any number of specific or material things I could point to that brings me joy in my day to day life, Im using this exercise to reflect where I am, how I got here, and how it isnt as all bad as I can sometimes feel it is... 1. My relationships. Being an introvert, Im a naturally solitary man, but I have known true companionship for short periods of time. I can count the number of honest connections Ive made on one hand, and they were whirlwinds of emotion and adventure. Time has passed, people have moved on, but when I do think of them I remember them all fondly and believe they all brought out the very best in me. 2. My family. I wouldnt have grown up to be the person I am today without them. My parents, for working hard to give me what they themselves didnt have growing up. My sister, for keeping my on my toes and teaching me humility. My aunts and uncles and cousins and more abroad, for making me feel welcome despite long absences. I can never truly appreciate them enough. 3. My country. You only need to read a newspaper to realize how great a place Canada is to live. Free country, stable economy, free elections, free healthcare, first-world conditions, vast expanses of wilderness, diverse cultures, small towns, metropolitan cities, rich history, plentiful natural resources, and a cool looking flag! Only one more day of his tomorrow, then I can return to my regular low-calorie topical rambling guilt-free :)
