The self proclaimed leader of Unionism, Peter Robinson declared it - TopicsExpress

The self proclaimed leader of Unionism, Peter Robinson declared it would be folly to have a large scale protest on the anniversary of the removal of the Union Flag at Belfast City Hall. His reason being the economic strain such a protest would put on the country, due to the date coinciding with the most important shopping day of the year. I would like to ask Mr Robinson, our First Minister when did the last Saturday in November become so important ? and on what basis ? It is not because it is the day most money is spent, that would be Boxing Day, a day that the shops would be shut if the Democratic Unionist Party had their way. It is not because it is the day with the largest footfall. That would normally be the day before Christmas eve. However with Christmas Eve falling on a Monday their is a possibility that Sunday 22nd December will take the footfall award. That sunday the shops will have restricted hrs. I expect there to be calls from retailers to extend their hrs that day, on the basis it is “the most important shopping day of the year” which incidentally, was the reasoning behind opening on Boxing Day. It is not because a large Christmas Event is happening in the City Center. That would be the turning on of the lights, or opening the Christmas Market. It is not because of extended opening hrs, that would be the nightly extended hrs between now and christmas. So, could someone please explain to me, what is so special about today in relation to shopping, apart from it fitted with the “blame the Protestants” mentality that has grown unchecked, like a weed over the last decade.
