The shootings in Canada raise a significant number of questions - TopicsExpress

The shootings in Canada raise a significant number of questions about gun control. In Canada 31 people out of a hundred have a gun of some kind. In the USA 90 people out of a hundred have a gun of some kind. Canadas gun homicides in 2012 - 173 in total USAs gun homicides in 2012 - 9,146 in total Canada has 35.16 million inhabitants USA has 316.1 million inhabitants Therefore one would reasonably expect that the USAs gun homicides based on gun ownership and population should be, pro rata to Canadas roughly 20 times as many, or some 3,400. And yet its close on three times that amount. Why? Obviously there is something else at play here than simple guns to people ratio. By way of contrast, Switzerland has a population of 8 million, 46 out of every 100 own a gun of some sort (mostly semi-automatic rifles) and the gun homicide deaths in 2010 were 42. So what is the virtue of gun control as opposed to training in the use of guns (Switzerland) and extensive background checks (Canada). Or am I missing some vital, significant factor?
