The situation in Ferguson is our fault. By our, I mean privileged white, male-dominated, politically apathetic and economically empowered America. Regardless of the facts concerning Browns tragic death, the greater fact remains that we perpetuate a culture of individualism and selective freedom that hides a system of lop-sided justice in which men and women of color are culturally devalued, prejudicially treated, disproportionately incarcerated, and hired less. This is an America weve built, we tolerate, and we perpetuate at the expense of restorative justice, equality, and equal treatment under the law.
