The start of a new year brings a new member of staff.... Marco Duz joins us as an internal medicine specialist from the University of Nottingham Vet School and will be working Thursday and Friday every week. He will be working closely with Jocelyn Habershon Butcher who will continue to work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Marco graduated from the University of Padova (Italy) in 2004, completed an internship at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Centre in California (USA) in 2006, when he then moved to Scotland. In Glasgow, Marco obtained a Masters in Veterinary Medicine by research working on the development of non-invasive tools to assess lower airway inflammation in horses. After a small spell in equine first opinion practice in Renfrewshire, Marco returned to the University of Glasgow in 2008 to complete a 4-year residency in Equine Internal Medicine and obtained the status of diplomat of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine in 2014. In Glasgow he also worked for 3 years towards his PhD on equine epidemiology describing the prevalence of NSAIDs usage and toxicity in horses through the analysis of large dataset (half a million horses) of electronic medical records. Marco has also been involved in several other studies on equine endocrinology and to describe the nature of first opinion practice in North America and the United Kingdom.
