The steering committee met last night and this is what we have so - TopicsExpress

The steering committee met last night and this is what we have so far: Black Mountain is our first pick to host the race venue. Thom is going to speak with them about it in the next few weeks. Were looking at mid February to mid March race date with February the prefered month. Mid March would be pushing it. We want to keep it small and local for the first event. Given the varying levels of fitness and commitment to racing, it was decided that a 20 to 25 mile loop with three options for a race; 20-25, 40-50, 60-75. The exact mileage would be determined by the loop. This would give people to a chance to bail if they couldnt make the distance. We felt we needed an absolute cutoff time so nobody had to wait for 12 hours for someone to finish. No marshals on the course. Each person would be given a map and then it would be up to them to figure out the loop. The course would be marked with arrows to some extent, but this is supposed to be a self sufficient endurance race. We figured that 200 - 250 participants would be ideal. There was some discussion of a field limit but that was tabled until we could get some input from Chris Riley. Ill be contacting Mike Norton who puts on Quabbin without USAC involvement to see what he is using for insurance. Keeping with the grass roots theme, we are hoping to not involve USAC in this. Lastly, we figured it would be good to try and have a real Maine theme to this race. We havent determined what that is yet and are open to suggestions. We need to find some sponsors and would like to have a bike shop on board and at the race. I think thats it.
