The story of Mahboob Alam and Afroz Nahid were like any other in Bangladesh. There only son Zayem reads in class two. An “Impossible to sit a single second” boy who was calm and quiet in no almost no way! Even not sitting somewhere quiet for a moment! He is always with questions, even before feeding a diet! Everything was OK, The story and its sweet family. Until .......... Zayem was complaining of a continuous headache. Unusual for a kid of his age to complain of headache. His father took him to the doctor. After a brief diagnostic they suggest and MRI and CT Scan. Upon receiving the reports the doctor said, The MRI report of his brain shows it is a tumor in the pineal region, spreading into the left thalamus hydrocephalus due to the tumor obstructing the drainage of CSF away from the lateral ventricles. So a Ventricular-peritoneal shunt surgery or an ETV (Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy) is needed to treat the hydrocephalus. The tumor cannot be excised as it is too extensive, and in an impossible location. So a stereo-tactic biopsy is also needed to get the diagnosis. No one could understand the ascetic tone of what the report said. Moinul Haque, former professor of Dhaka Medical College diagnosed Zayem and said he has a brain tumor. And this surgery is not possible in Bangladesh as the facilities needed to operate are not available here. But to appease the scenario he suggested an ETV (Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy) could be performed to have some time before going abroad and perform the main operation. Prior to his illness a doctor of Australia was found who has done similar kind of surgery previously (nzherald.co.nz/rotorua-daily-post/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503438&objectid=11031010). Australian Doctor Charles Teo, he was contacted with and he agreed on operating on Zayem in Singapore, at NUH (National University Hospital). All these equations became stuck in one simple variable. How the family will arrange this myriad amount of money required. For a country like Bangladesh where you earn in taka and have to pay in dollars for the medicals in Singapor it’s almost impossible to manage. Things were deteriorating and thus, on 16 August, 2014 an ETV (Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy) surgery was performed at Popular Medical College & Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Even never asked, What happened to me? Zayem, who had a personal craving for Cadbury chocolate, now merely notices the chocolates that are by him on the bedside table. His only sister, just three years old, sits quietly beside him; even she knows that somewhere down the line, something is not right, some balance sheet is no more balanced in the family. I would be very happy if I could tell you that all of this was a story. But it’s very painful for me to deny that. Zayems life story will end very quickly, unless, we all, who are reading this act quickly. We need to stand by him, not only by our prayers but also with financial helps. And trust me when I say, we need a lot of that! This is the only truth now. Every passing moment we sit idle doing nothing for Zayem, his probabilities of living becomes an impossible solution to solve, by every second. I urge you, let it be your pocket money for today, let it be the cost of todays meal, a little gift that you decided to buy for yourself or anyone else, even let it be as small as your todays cell phone expense, please come forward for Zayem. Our prayers and monetary help, both are equally needed today to uphold Zayem. Because I believe, We believe, Together, we can be the team who will make Zayem believe, yes, still there exist a bunch of people, who, even not knowing me, believes that I must live, I must again, crave for that last piece of Cadbury I left untouched…. মাহবুব আলম আর আফরোজ নাহিদ হকের পরিবারের গল্পটা আমাদের আর সবার মতোই ছিলো। একমাত্র ছেলে জায়েম পড়ছে ক্লাস টু-তে। অসম্ভব চঞ্চল দুষ্টু একটা ছেলে। এক মুহুর্তের জন্য কোথাও চুপ করে বসা নেই! সারাক্ষণ প্রশ্ন করেই যাচ্ছে, এমনকি খাওয়ানোর সময়ও প্রতিবার খাবার মুখে নেবার আগে একটা করে প্রশ্ন! সবকিছু ঠিক ছিলো, গল্পটা, গল্পের নায়ক নায়িকারা, তাদের একমাত্র ছেলেটা... ছিলো... আগস্ট ১২, ২০১৪। কিছুদিন ধরেই মাথা ব্যাথার কথা বলতো জায়েম। এতো ছোট একটা বাচ্চা কেন মাথা ব্যাথার কথা বলবেয় কিন্তু দিনদিন বাড়তে থাকার কারণে ওকে ডাক্তারের কাছে নিয়ে গেলেন মাহবুব ও আফরোজ। ডাক্তারী পরীক্ষা নিরীক্ষার পর একটা রিপোর্ট দিলেন, ওখানে লিখা ছিলো, “The MRI report of his brain shows it is a malignant brain cancer in the pineal region, spreading into the left thalamus hydrocephalus due to the tumor obstructing the drainage of CSF away from the lateral ventricles. So a stereo-tactic biopsy is also needed to get the diagnosis.” কেউ বুঝতে পারে নি এই কয়টি লাইনের ভিতর কী ভয়ঙ্কর একটা সত্য লুকিয়ে আছে। জায়েমকে দেখছিলেন ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজের প্রাক্তন অধ্যাপক ডাক্তার মাইনুল হক সরকার। বললেন ওর ব্রেইন টিউমার হয়েছে। এবং এমন একটা পর্যায়ে চলে গেছে, দেশে এটার চিকিৎসা প্রায় হবেই না বললে চলে। ওর অসুখটা এমনই যে এর আগে এরকম অসুখের রিপোর্টেড কেইস মাত্র একটা। সেটার অপারেশন করেছিলেন অস্ট্রেলিয়ান ডাক্তার চার্লস টেও। উনার সাথে যোগাযোগ করা হয়েছে, উনি যদি সিঙ্গাপুর আসতে পারেন তাহলে সেখানেই অপারেশন হবে NUH এ। আর তা সম্ভব না হলে জায়েমকে নিয়ে যাওয়া হবে অস্ট্রেলিয়াতে। সব কিছু আটকে আছে শুধু দু’টা প্রশ্নে। ডাক্তার কোথায় যেতে বলবেন...আর টাকা... চাকুরিজীবী মাহবুব আলমের এখন কোন হিসেব মিলছে না। নিজের সহায় সম্বল যা আছে তা বিক্রির চেষ্টা শুরু করেছেন এরই মধ্যে, কিন্তু চিকিৎসার জন্য মোট দরকার প্রায় ১ কোটি টাকা। উনাদের পক্ষে এতো টাকা জোগাড় করাটা এই মুহুর্তে একদমই অসম্ভব। আর ছোট্ট জায়েম, সেই ছটফটে দুরন্ত জায়েম এখন চুপ করে শুয়ে থাকে বিছানায়। খুব অবাক করা ব্যাপার, ও জিজ্ঞেসও করে না, “আমার কী হয়েছে?” মা-বাবার একমাত্র ছেলে জায়েম, যেই ছেলেটা ক্যাডবেরী চকলেটের জন্য পাগল ছিলো, অসম্ভব প্রিয় চকলেট মুহুর্তের মধ্যে শেষ করে ফেলতো, সেই জায়েম। ওকে দেখতে আসা সবাই ওর জন্য নিয়ে আসে ক্যাডবেরী, কিন্তু সেগুলো পড়ে থাকে টেবিলে, কিংবা বিছানায়। চকলেটগুলো এখন ছুঁয়েও দেখে না জায়েম। চকলেটগুলো পড়ে থাকে, ওর মতোই, চুপচাপ হয়ে। ওর একমাত্র বোন, মাত্র সাড়ে তিন বছর বয়স, ওর দাদুর সাথে জায়নামাজে বসে দোয়া করে ওর ভাইয়ার জন্য। ছোট্ট মেয়েটিও বুঝে গেছে, কিছু একটা ঠিক নেই। কোথাও একটা হিসেব মিলছে না। একদমই নয়া। আমি খুব খুশি হতাম যদি বলতে পারতাম এটা একটা গল্প। কিন্তু খুব কষ্ট নিয়েই বলতে হচ্ছে এটা গল্প নয়। জায়েম এর জীবনের গল্পটা খুব দ্রুত শেষ হয়ে যাবে, যদি এই আমরা, আমরা সবাই একটু এগিয়ে না আসি। জায়েম এর জন্য টাকার দরকার। অনেক টাকা। এটাই এখন একমাত্র সত্য। ওদের ভিসা আর পাসপোর্টের কাজ হয়ে গেলে আগামী ১/২ সপ্তাহের মধ্যে জায়েমকে চিকিৎসার জন্য নিয়ে যেতে চাচ্ছে। কারণ একটা দিন দেরী মানেই জায়েমের একটু করে হেরে যাওয়া। আর জায়েমের পাশে আমরা যদি না দাঁড়াই তাহলে আর কে থাকবে ওর বলুন? আমার আজকের দুপুরের লাঞ্চের টাকা, আপনার কয়েকটা দিনের রিকশাভাড়া থেকে বাঁচানো টাকা, আমার বন্ধুর একদিনের মোবাইলের খরচ, আপনার খুব কাছের কাউকে গিফট করার জন্য জমিয়ে রাখা টাকার কিছু অংশ, যতটুকু সম্ভব, এগিয়ে আসুন প্লীজ। আজকে জায়েমের আমাদের দোয়ার যতখানি দরকার, ঠিক ততখানি দরকার টাকারও। আমি জানি এই আমার ১০০ কিংবা ৫০০ টাকায় হয়তো আমি কিছু করতে পারবো না। কিন্তু ১০০০০ মানুষ যদি ১০০ টাকা করেই দেয়, তাতেও কিন্তু ১০ লাখ টাকা আমরা ওর হাতে তুলে দিতে পারি। জায়েম তো আমারও আপন কেউ হতে পারতো, কিংবা আমারও ভাই হতে পারতো। খুব কী বেশি অনুরোধ হবে? যদি বলি একদিনের জন্য হলেও খরচের টাকা বাঁচিয়ে কিছু দেই আমরা জায়েমকে, সেই ক্যাডবেরী পছন্দ করা ছেলেটাকে, আমার খুব বিশ্বাস করতে ইচ্ছে করে, জায়েমের টেবিলের সেই ক্যাডবেরীগুলো জায়েমের জন্যই। ও আবার সুস্থ হয়ে আসবে আমাদের মাঝে, দুরন্ত সব প্রশ্নে আর দুষ্টুমিতে মাতিয়ে রাখবে সবাইকে। কেউ কখনো আমাদের না বললেও আমরা জানবো, আমরা চেষ্টা করেছিলাম, আমরা চেষ্টা করবো। আমার বিশ্বাস জায়েম ভালো হয়ে উঠবে, উঠতেই হবে জায়েমকে... আপনারা সাহায্য পাঠাতে পারেন নীচের ঠিকানায়। ব্যাংক এ্যাকাউন্টঃ (Bank Account) Mahboob Alam Khan A/C No. 1514101887416001 Shaymoli Branch, BRAC Bank A/C No. 116103161595 Rumnaz Binte Kader Gulshan Branch, DBBL Swift code DBBLBDDH116 বিকাশ এ্যাকাউন্টঃ (Bkash Account) পারসোনাল নাম্বারঃ 01717464227, 01615638087, 01912924521, 01675575119 যেকোন যোগাযোগেঃ জায়েমের বাবা, মাহবুবঃ 01671032533 (Zayems Father) জায়েমের ফুপু, Rumnaz:01915638087 (Zayems Aunt) #WeWithZayem Please #Share & #Care
