The story of an average American school child in May: 8 a.m. Parent applies sunscreen (active ingredient: oxybenzone, etc.) 8:20 a.m. Sunscreen is ready to work to protect child’s skin. Child is on the bus or doing morning desk work. 10 a.m. Sunscreen has sunk into the skin so far that it is no longer effective for sun protection. Child is still in the classroom. I’m sorry to say that there’s not a happy ending to this story. Find out what happens at noon when the child goes out for recess in the sunshine: buff.ly/1n2QhHD
