The story of the BIKERS and the SUV driver...... Im a biker. Ive loved motorcycles for over 50 years. After my first try at off road motorcycling I NEVER rode on the streets ever again. On streets there are cars, trucks, busses, semis and all manner of other things much much bigger and heavier than me and my little bike. Ive enjoyed myself a whole lot and Ive never tangled with a car or truck. To me a Biker might be a doctor, a TV broadcaster, and engineer, a welder, accountant, a doctor, nurse, teacher, preacher, or a truck driver. He might wear a suit or a leather jacket. He is also quite likely to demonstrate against an out of control government in a noisy ride through Washington D.C. He, or she, might also be one of thousands helping with a Toys For Tots drive in your town. And yes, he might drink beer and play pool too, maybe even ride a rat rod. The criminals labeled bikers in the widely publicized attack/counter attack last week were none of those. From the video recording I saw a group of criminals on dirt bikes attacking and terrorizing an urban citizen with his wife and children with him. I might ride a horse one day - that doesnt make me a cowboy. If I did something criminal/evil/wrong while riding that horse - it shouldnt reflect on all cowboys - or ANY cowboys. I never even MET a cowboy. If a gang/mob of criminals riding dirt bikes do something evil/wrong/ criminal - it doesnt reflect badly on millions of people across the USA and the world who enjoy riding motorcycles or who need to because it is their only transportation. The way a story is described. The way it is covered. Is a responsibility, an opportunity to be honest and truthful - or a chance to be a sensationalist muck-raker yellow journalist. I love my bikes - and my honest, hard-working, decent comrads, brothers on two wheels. Please be careful not to smear a million good folks with too wide a brush! Ken Eddowes Age 69.
