The story so far, which leads to a question; what does a Gaming Report look like? The stuff below, or something else? Just curious. Constructive criticism welcome (including this isnt the place for that ;) ) So got off to a rocky start. Heres the first installment... Two of the party, Blinx and Rubus, found themselves on the outskirts of the nexus in the area; the barter town known as Bominto. While still in the grip of the wild lands and the dangers present there, signs of habitation were evident. Small farming communities were carving out their stake among the dangerous flora and fauna. Crops of viable grains, and herds of various livestock were carefully being tended by mutant and human alike. A small but steady flow of materials were being carted into town by its residents for what appeared to be construction and barter. Exchanges with the locals were guarded but pleasant. Most were quite emphatic about their suggestion that the newcomers make their presence known at the Great Hall at the towns center. These directions were dutifully followed by our heroes. Their track took them from the near anarchy near the edge, past the ancients constructions lying near totally in ruins, claimed by an unruly plant life, towards a more ordered arrangement of skeletal rundown buildings and roads of continuous grey stone. The sun had not yet climbed its highest before the two found themselves at the Hall. It rose skyward, easily cresting the ancient trees nearby and, while grizzled, seemed unconquered by the ravages of time. Adorning its domed top was a single plant of enormous dimensions the leaves of which could easily blanket a man, and whose roots and tendrils, as thick as a mans waist, twined serpentine over the roofs parapets, down the walls, and entered the building via the regular openings along its sides. The entrance was guarded on either side by a well-armed pair of militia men. As our heroes drew near, one guard alerted those within to the strangers presence. Stepping up onto the crude wooden porch, the party was taken aback as through the doorway came a pair of great antlers followed by the rest of the eight feet of muscle and sinew of the creature known as Chok. Covered in a varying selection of dark brown, black, and gray fur, the humanoid animal towered over them and his large liquid brown eyes held them with a critical glare. With a gusting snort from his 3 foot muzzle, the creature spoke in a cavernous baritone You must be the newcomers causing the stir. Welp, come on. Youre supposed to meet with her. Without another word, Chok turned on his hooves and clopped heavily back into the building, not waiting on his new charges. The party hurried along after him. The interior was lit by dappled sunlight streaming past the flora atop the Hall and spilling through rough holes in the dome some 40 feet overhead. Although an air of great age hung about this place, it was plain to see care had been taken in its upkeep. Floors were swept, cobwebs cleaned, and although damaged by time no detritus was in evidence. Chok continued towards and up the nearby stairs to the next level. Another startling encounter, this one in the form of jet black skin and a multitude of limbs, eyes, and antennae that slid over the balcony railing above and gracefully travelled some distance across the wall to take a position both between and above the pair and Chok. A furtive, sussurant voice tossed a careless barb at Chok Better get a move on, shes waiting... The creature quietly started back up the wall on its six limbs, clucking to itself very interesting as it regarded Blinx and Rubus with the large, stout, compound eyestalk that was situated on the back of its skull. Its myriad, supple, whisker-like antennae rustled with the chuckle barely heard in the massive chamber. Were on our way, Chok growled after the thing, he then mumbled to himself about some damned busybody. His gait lengthened as he reached the second landing and started around the balcony to another flight of stairs. The party broke into a light jog for Blinx and a near run for the four foot tall mobile plant, Rubus. Atop the third flight, Chok turned towards the only opening on that floor. It was a darkened hallway that led to a sparely furnished and high room. The sun streamed in through the outside walls open spaces. Stretched loosely over the rooms back half was a great swath of material. It had to be from the ancients as it seemed impossibly light and quite thin. Vibrant stripes of color as broad as Chok was tall crossed its surface from one side of the room and back, billowing in a gentle breeze. Fine and shining rope of ancient make with pieces of their smooth, strong metal bent into curious shapes hung from the ends of the cloth stripes which seem to narrow slowly towards those connected edges. Centered under the draping cloth, a moss covered pedestal with a wide shallow bowl atop it sat holding a loosely woven material which looked very soft. Chok crossed the room to the far left corner where another open doorframe stood and rapped twice firmly, but respectfully, on a wooden upright. He turned and placed his hands behind his back and proffered a measuring glance towards the two heroes while he waited patiently. After a short but uncomfortable silence there was a slight scrabbling heard coming from something in the far room. A soft thump and a small exhale followed, then a faint shuffling gait made its way to the door. At the doorframes closest edge, right next to the floor, appeared a small brown and white head covered in scruffy fur. Two pointed ears swiveled a top its head and a pair of large, vacant green eyes centered first up at Chok and then on the rooms other occupants. A snuffling cough, a guttural trill, and the tiny creature licked its lips. Slowly it waddled the rest of its body into view. The whole creature was hardly larger than Choks hoof. Maybe one and a half hands long, not counting the stiffly bent tail. The four legs seemed connected to its body in an awkward fashion, as if all akimbo even while wobbling to its destination. An ungainly trot later brought it to the edge of the drape which it slipped behind. From an unnoticed hole in the cloth it reappeared, taking a narrow, low slung gang plank to the back of the pedestal and into the bowl of woven softness. It tramped around in a circle several times, checking over what now appeared to be bedding. Satisfied, it turned to face the party and flopped its tiny, furry frame into its nest. Chok took a position beside the pedestal while the little creature continued to snuffle and look about. A rapid pair of sneezes in succession, it licked its chops again. Curiously, the animals tongue seemed to still be lolling out the side of its tiny maw. Somewhere behind their eyes and yet echoing in the whole room, a tiny voice was heard to say Hi. Its me, Buub.
