The stupidest thing the state Democratic parties ever did was withdraw to the cities and college towns after Reagan won a couple of elections with his phony populism. The counter to his most feared words are Im from the government and Im here to help apocryphal tale was Were the Democrats. Remember us? We brought you electricity and paved roads. And since many rural folks still paid their electric bill to a Rural Electric COOPERATIVE in the eighties, it would have undoubtedly worked. Instead, they did....nothing. Well, thats not quite true...they cowered. They mewled. They acted pathetic. But they didnt do anything that would have actually, yanno, **mattered.**
