The stupidity of a species...... Natures ecosystems have been balanced for millions of years, there are checks in place to stop unstoppable explosions in any species. This is a Tritons Trumpet (Charonia variegata), we killed this species to make pretty ornamental shells for our shelves. Knock on affect, an explosion in its main prey species the crown-of-thorns starfish, Acanthaster planci. We then decide to kill all of them because they eat coral reefs, knock on affect of that, unhealthy reefs because of a lack of new recruitment and succession. My point, lets keep it real, most ecological disasters in the marine environment have been caused by one species, a species that does not even belong there, lets put the blame where it belongs :) Tobago, 2006 (only seen the one, in two weeks).
