The text of the Blessing Cardinal Seán gave to Boston Marathon runners after Mass this morning: Blessing of Boston Marathon Runners Strong and faithful God, as we gather on this, your day of Resurrection, in which you conquered death and opened the gates of heaven to all who believe in you; we ask you to bless these runners, who have gathered here today in preparation for the Boston Marathon. Bless them and keep them safe from injury and harm, instill in them respect for each other, and reward them for their perseverance. Bless all the medical teams and staff, as well as those who work for our public safety. May we say together with St. Paul, that we have competed well; we have finished the race; we have kept the faith, so that we may inherit the crown of righteousness, where you live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.
