The thing I enjoy most about being a photographer is that I get to capture peoples passion. That is my main goal when I photograph. When I look for a car to feature I look for one that shows off the owners personally, because sometimes its not about the money you have to spend on a vehicle, its about the passion and enthusiasm you have for it. This week it wasnt hard to see that Briam Eidem put in work on his 1970 VW Beetle. Hand fabricating everything from the chopped top to the bed and roof rack himself, Brians car stands out from the crowd. It definitely shows off his built, not bought attitude. Name: Brian Eidam Age: 36 Vehicle: 1970 Volkswagen Beetle. Modifications: Suspension: Front end of frame extended 12, lowered 2, 2 degrees of added caster. 2 drop spindles, and air shocks added to get the front of the pan on the ground. Rear suspension is turned down a click or two on the torsions. Front brake drums swapped over to 66 drums to be able to run wide-5 wheels and Smart car tires. Rear has adapters to run junkyard S-10 wheels and tires. Body has been chopped 7, gas door shaved, and hood notched for steering. Rear of cab is from a 48-55 Chevy pickup truck, chopped/channeled/sectioned/ narrowed/notched to fit the bug body, and the rear extended cab window was made with various Beetle window frame sections. Bed and ladder rack were hand built. Interior has power leather buckets seats from an Infiniti J30. Radio hole was shaved from the dash, smooth door panels wrapped in black vinyl, battery cover behind seats is wrapped in carbon fiber. Motor is a 1835cc with mild cam. Reason for build: To test my skills and see if I could build a bad-ass, cheap little hot-rod. Favorite thing about the car: Getting in, hearing that motor fire up, and peering out the little windshield. You just cant help but feel BADASS cruising around behind a severely chopped windshield. Whats next: Still need to finish up the metal work, work on getting a little more cooling to the motor somehow, and sooner or later send it off to get smoothed over and painted. People to thank: As far as this particular build goes, Id like to thank my Dad for lending a hand getting the back wall in place. My amazing wife for allowing me to spend the garage time to bust this thing out in 5 months and the continued support since the original build. Joshua Joyce and Rusty Townsend for being my biggest fans of this build even though they may have doubted me at first. _____________________________________________________ Thanks for checking out and supporting Sears Sunday. Stay tuned for the next feature! _____________________________________________________ Photography: Travis Alexander Photography Words: Clinton Travis + Brian Eidem
