The title and cover picture of Mrs. Georgianna Woods book, A Creekside Story - From Buckboard Days to Ecotourism, denotes and is an exemplification of the families, the people, that loved, worked and dwelled in the Aravaipa Canyon Creek, Arizona, in a time which includes my forefathers. My paternal grandparents met while walking and playing on the rocks of the Aravaipa Creek. How often does life give one the opportunity to read about characters that also include your people and where you come from. Being born in Arizona and only making one trip to visit this area, I often wondered how tough it must have been to live there. Arizona has its own uniqueness and beauty; it does seem rough and hard with its cactus and rough tempestuous terrain. In Mrs. Woods writings, the true grit and determination of people living along an Arizona River Canyon is written with first-hand account. Mrs. Woods saga of people building a life in that part of Arizona with its challenges and episodes are insightful, detailed and full of statistics. Her first-hand knowledge of calamities and intrinsic aspects of life in that era to present development along with her heartfelt small details and stories are a joy to read. Mrs. Wood, was married to my paternal great grandmothers cousins son, Cliff Wood. Mrs. Georgianna Wood also writes a column Georgie Digs for the Copper Basin News, Hayden, Arizona.
