The work SSI does to support and develop schools and communities in rural Cambodia is important ! Did you know that in the 1970s the Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot executed thousands of people because they were educated? And subsequently, now, the average educational level of citizens in rural Cambodia is 3rd grade? SSI is doing wonderful work to change this -- for example: a micro-lending bank provides small loans to develop small businesses in villages; the interest earned on the loans is then used to pay the salaries of teachers in the rural village schools. Having started with just one school, SSI now is helping about 2000 primary school students get an education, and has provided scholarship funds allowing a class of 28 students to graduate from high school. One of these graduates is now in his second year of college in agriculture, is coming here to CSU this semester to study, and will return to his village to teach agriculture to middle school students... This is a FANTASTIC creative program. Please come to this fundraising event in person, or bid on the auction items online and help support this great cause!
