The work achieved over course maintenance period was a massive success. The greens were solid tined to a depth of 150mm there was minimal disturbance on the putting surfaces which proves that the aeration program is working well developing a good root establishment in the soil profile which leads to a healthy surface and also helps with reducing organic matter. 75 tonnes of top dressing sand was applied during the course maintenance period which also helps with diluting organic matter, improves drainage and enhances the trueness and pace of the putting surfaces. The tees and all areas that suffer stress over the winter period were also aerated. The bunkers from 1 - 13 were edged, banks cut, sand topped up where needed, large flint and chalked removed. The remaining bunkers will be completed this week. The recovery on the greens has been very good with the sand nearly bedded into the sward. The height of cut has been raised this week to make sure that sand is not picked up when mowing daily, hence why they are slower than usual. The height of cut will be dropped shortly when the putting surfaces will return to their normal pace and trueness. I would like to finish with saying a big thank you to my team for their hard work, membership for their understanding through this period and the committees for their support.
