The work of an elected or nominated representative or legislator - TopicsExpress

The work of an elected or nominated representative or legislator both at the national and county government should be made a civic duty with minimum wage compensation and at best a part time position without perks, privileges and pension. The constituents should determine and fix the compensation of their reps. This way, an MP, Senator and MCAs pay, schedule and performance are under the direct scrutiny of the consituents. This will make the representatives more accountable for the votes they cast, the issues they support and oppose and the nature of politics they engage in.The national government, its entities or institutions established under the national law should not determine, fix or regulate compensation to all the levels of Representatives. This I believe will end the gluttonous and selfish rush by our legislators to make legislative and county representative positions the best paying professions supported by the tax payers without their actual consent and begin to make it possible for right thinking and principled individuals to become representative who put the will of the people first and foremost.
