The world lies about the true nature of power (See Walter Wink’s - TopicsExpress

The world lies about the true nature of power (See Walter Wink’s work on the god-complexes of the rich and powerful). These are distortions of truth. 8 Lies include: (1) Power always belongs to the powerful. (2) Force always prevails over ideas. The survivors are those with technological, military, and economic strength. (3) Choice always belongs to the powerful. (4) Power is truth. (In the Scriptures, truth is power, but the world seems to communicate that power is truth.) (5) Assets are an all-important powerbase. Power always comes from the assets I own and the wealth I create. Production of wealth is first priority. Property is sacred, and ownership is a right. (6) Power is a zero-sum game. (But, in Scripture, power is a positive sum dynamic. Power multiplies when you share. But the world says there are limited supplies of power. Don’t share, because if you share, you will lose it. We need to call this a lie). (7) Powerful institutions are more important than people. (8) God, if there is one, is the patron of the powerful. These are all lies. We need to communicate that power belongs to God (not power to the people, or power to the powerful). We need to speak truth about power. Power isn’t found in resources, might, status, race, and privilege. Power belongs to God alone. He chooses the weak things of the world to shame the strong. ~ From an inspiring talk Im listening to today, by Jayakumar Christian (World Vision, India).
