The worlds youngest doctor | My dream is to come back to do something for the Palestinian refugees in the camps This is Iqbal Al-Assaad, the Palestinian child prodigy who at 20 became a medical doctor. Born in Lebanon, Iqbal caught the attention of Lebanon’s education minister when by aged 9 she had skipped ahead from 3rd to 9th grade and required governmental permission in order to sit the exams. By aged 12 she had graduated from high school with dreams of becoming a doctor but no means to go to university. The education minister stepped up again and this time secured her a scholarship at Cornell University Qatari Campus. As a refugee from Palestine, Iqbal is not permitted to work and continue her medical training in Lebanon. Fortunately she found a job in the US and has just started a three year residency at the Children’s Hospital, Cleveland Ohio. Iqbal is the youngest working doctor in the world and the youngest ever Arab Doctor. She wants to use her skills and expertise to help Palestinian refugees. #kamamigo
