Theater 181, Section 2 Theatrical Realization of Dramatic Texts: Creating and Delivering Civic Engagement This is the opportunity to integrate performance studies research interests with the cultivation of public performance skills. We will collaborate with TDPS productions in shaping and facilitating community engagement opportunities appropriate to the content and context of the fall TDPS season. Projects under consideration include developing dramaturgical notes and interactive resources for the program and the website, designing and installing lobby display materials and giving installation tours, creating and facilitating pre-performance talks, coordinating and moderating post-show Talk-Back discussions, shaping and leading Performance Dialogues within the department, crafting contextualized marketing materials for social media and taking it live with public internet facilitation, and/or other educational outreach projects that emerge and would provide department, campus, and community audiences pathways for more critical understanding and enjoyment of our fall season. Students will select which production(s) they wish to partner with in creating and delivering opportunities for civic engagement through resource development and ideally live, direct, interactive, civic engagement. 1-4 units based on the projects undertaken. Supervision and mentoring will shape the development of the project(s) and facilitation skills. Students will work independently, but Thursdays 4-6 will be the designated time to meet with the advisor to develop and advance the projects. Pre-requisites: 3 lower and/or upper division performance studies courses, or equivalent experience, and/or permission of the instructor. Contact instructor for more information and to request CCN.
