Theft of Boat Batteries: Silverton On May 5, 2014 at 8:40 am Police officers responded to Bay Breeze Drive, in the Silverton section of town in reference to the theft of a boat battery. An observant resident reported that they had seen a maroon four door car with its trunk open next to a boat at a nearby marina. A man was inside the boat and he was acting suspiciously. The citizen took a photograph with their cellular phone of the man and his vehicle. Officer Gallipoli, Detective Turner, and Detective DiMichele identified Michael Campanalonga, 27, of Cedarhurst Drive as the vehicles operator. He was located and a search of the car found several battery terminals, wires, and nuts as well as battery labels. The investigation encompassed a two month time span in which boat owners realized they were victims of battery thefts from their vessels when they began spring preparations. All of the thefts were from the Silverton section of town near the home of the suspect. The batteries were sold to a local scrap yard for between six and ten dollars each. Mr. Campanalonga was arrested and charged with nine counts of burglary and theft and was being held in the Ocean County Jail on $50,000 bail. This investigation is continuing and anyone who believes they were also a victim should contact Detective DiMichele at 732-349-0150 extension 1333.
