Their are many families that would like a normal thanksgiving this year but for one reason or another they cant even get the bare necessities. Please help by donating what you can to places like Manna. Here is an article I found that really goes into detail about how bad the situation is. BANGOR, Maine — This year, Manna Ministries Inc. has set the ambitious goal of providing 6,800 turkey dinners to people in need throughout the region, director Bill Rae announced. “We at Manna are very concerned this year,” Rae said Monday in a news release. “For many, unemployment checks have run out, heating fuel has now become a necessity and many are in danger of losing what home or apartment they have.” Rae also said the soup kitchen, used primarily by people living on fixed incomes and the working poor, is full every night and that the food pantry is being used by more families than ever. The demand likely will increase in the year ahead because those surviving on Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits won’t receive cost-of-living increases this year, he said. For the 15th consecutive year, Manna is gearing up to distribute turkeys to individuals and meal providers during Thanksgiving week. The sign-up period for turkeys begins Monday, Nov. 8, at Manna, 629 Main St. in Bangor. The public can help by buying and donating 8- to 10-pound turkeys or by contributing grocery store gift cards, cash or checks and letting Manna do the shopping. Donations should be sent to Manna at 629 Main St., Bangor 04401. Call 990-2870 for information. Thanks :)
