Then he said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:13–14 MESSAGE: The Bible has many accounts of women who conceived and gave birth. The most profound and significant account is that of a virgin girl called Mary – the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was a conception and birth that had been foretold centuries before it happened. The prophet Isaiah called it, ‘a sign’. It was a sign because it was something that had never happened before – the virgin shall conceive! When Mary was told that she was going to be the vessel for such a profound miracle, she was surprised. Although it was an apparent impossibility, she believed. The virgin conceived! Her faith made it possible for ‘Immanuel’ – God with us – to be born. Mary’s faith allowed Christ the Saviour to be born to save mankind. Mary was special. Her conception of the Saviour was unique – it has never happened before and will never happen again. But in a metaphorical sense, ‘virgins’ still conceive. A virgin is an inexperienced or immature person. God still uses inexperienced people. He still uses people that we consider novices. Noah was a virgin in boat building but he conceived the plans to build an ark to survive the flood David was a virgin in warfare but he conceived a strategy to defeat the experienced Goliath I was a virgin in church planting but I conceived the vision to found the International Central Gospel Church Throughout history God has used ‘virgins’ to conceive and give birth to great ideas. It is now your turn. Are you ready for God to use you? May the Holy Spirit overshadow you and empower you to do what is considered impossible.
