There Is A Drop Of Greatness In Every Man Some men are born - TopicsExpress

There Is A Drop Of Greatness In Every Man Some men are born great, while others are made great. But the men talked about here have achieved greatness despite all odds. Nicholas James “Nick” Vujicic was born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterised by the absence of all four limbs. As a child, he struggled mentally, emotionally as well as physically, but eventually came to terms with his disability. At the age of seventeen, he started his own non-profit organisation, Life Without Limbs. Vujicic presents motivational speeches worldwide which focus on life with a disability, hope and finding meaning in life. He also speaks about his belief that God can use any willing heart to do his work and that God is big enough to overcome any disability. Nicholas Vujicic Nicholas Vujicic Egyptian born Ibrahim Hamato grew up loving table tennis, but after a terrible accident at the age of ten he lost both his hands. But that didn’t extinguish his passion for ping pong. He decided he would play the game no matter what. After years of practice he has perfected the game by holding the paddle in his mouth. His message: nothing is impossible. Ibrahim Hamato Ibrahim Hamato Oscar Leonard Carl Pistorius is a South African sprint runner. Although both of Pistorius’ legs were amputated below the knee when he was 11 months old, he competes in events for single below-knee amputees and for able-bodied athletes. At the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, Pistorius became the first amputee to win an able-bodied world track medal. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Pistorius became the first double leg amputee to participate in the Olympics when he entered the men’s 400 metres and 4 × 400 metres relay races. Oscar Pistorius profile Oscar Pistorius Whenever I remember these individuals mentioned and some others who fall in their category though not mentioned, it beats my imagination why some people in the society with their two hands, two legs, two eyes and in fact a complete physique still go about begging on the streets. The individuals mentioned at the outset all have severe personal disabilities to contend with. However, they never allow their disabilities become a barrier or a stumbling block to achieving great in life, rather they used it as a stepping stone. Though these ones at one point or the other struggled with their circumstances, received help from others, they never gave in to self pity, over dependence or a low self esteem as we see in some today. At this point, it is very important to note that every human living under the sun has something unique. A popular TV commercial has this selling statement, “There is a drop of greatness in every man”. Sad to say, many have paid little attention to this but in all actuality, it is very true. Each person do have something unique to offer. It relies on the individual to discover the potential. Many have neglected or ignored this fact. They have refused to search deep in themselves to know exactly what differentiates them from others. Instead, they prefer to saddle themselves in self pity, low self esteem, feelings of worthlessness and the likes. Now when this happens, it is only natural that they depend on others who they feel are better than them, in time they end up as beggars on the streets. At this point, I must vehemently clear up a foreseen misconception. This article is not and never in any way against helping the poor or the needy. No! After all, it was mentioned that the individuals who are relatively successful despite their disabilities do receive help from others on daily basis. Even the holy scriptures outline blessings for individuals who help others with a good conscience. Having said this, I strongly subscribe to the school of thought that there is a drop of greatness in every man. An individual who is privileged to have a complete physique should never be found begging on the streets. There is always something they can do with their own hands that can earn them their daily bread. All that is needed is to dig deep and search for that drop of greatness Do you agree? Tell us of other great men/women you have come across.
