There are 192 Higher Secondary Schools in the State of Assam having Science Stream. But a large number of them are still running without or less number of students in their science streams and as such the teaching and non-teaching staffs appointed against the science stream are getting their salaries and other benefits without works which is not cost effective at all. Besides, there are no required amenities in the so-called laboratories for teaching science effectively. On the other hand, a large chunk of HSLC passed outs are not getting admission at +2 stages. If we calculate the per capita (student) expenditure based on the annual outputs of the science streams of all those Higher Secondary schools, it will depict a dangerous picture of wastage of money.
