There are 2 types of Qadr (divine decree). One that is universal and cannot be changed and one which can. This is why the Prophet Muhammed salallahu alayhi wasalam said: “Nothing increases one’s life-span except good deeds, and nothing repels Divine Decree except dua.” [Tirmidhi] To put it simply, you can’t sit at home and expect that Apple with your name on it to fall into your lap. You make the effort. OR that seed will give fruit if planted, but that won’t happen unless the farmer takes care in cultivating it and maintaining it. So even though a person believes in the Divine Decree, we must at the same time strive all we can to ensure that the desired goal occurs. So du’a is the means that one uses to achieve the desired goal that one has, and this means in no way contradicts the destiny that has been written for that person. It maybe that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala has decreed that you get a £20,000/yr job but you do du’a and ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala for help and to guide you and because of this du’a you don’t get the job…but instead land a £50,000/year job which is better for you. But that is a result of your du’a, had you not done it the original decree would have carried on and you would’ve got the £20,000/year job on the flipside it maybe that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala decreed that you weren’t going to get ANY job and be unemployed, but you turn to him in repentance and du’a and ask him for help and so Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala then willed that you DO get the job you applied for.. Had you not done du’a it would’ve slipped from your fingers….but Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala wants you to turn to Him, to ask Him, to depend on Him, to rely on Him and He gives you..you just have to ask Him and trust Him "And your lord said : Call on me and I will answer you" (40:60). We just have to remember that when we do du’a we have to be patient and wait for Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala to respond. "Seek Allah’s help with patient perseverance and prayer. It is indeed hard except for those who are humble (2:45) So next time when something comes your way, or you go to drink something or a situation presents you..take a min or two to think about the blessing itself, see and feel Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala in everything you do. When a situation presents itself, just be patient and do du’a because everything is in His hands alone. All you can do is try your hardest, turn to Him and ask because you don’t know which way it’ll go. لا حول ولاقوة إلا بالله There is no power and strength except with Allah Subhanahu wa
