There are 3 things that the majority of my friends and family know - TopicsExpress

There are 3 things that the majority of my friends and family know about me: I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LDS, I am also very passionate about blood and organ donation and that I take every opportunity to educate people on the importance of donation. Finally - I would do anything in my power to help someone if needed and I had the ability! I tied these three things together for a specific purpose tonight. Today was our Fast and Testimony meeting and I heard several people share their commitment to the gospel and to the knowledge that the gospel is true. We are children of a loving Heavenly Father and have a Savior (our brother) who sacrificed himself so that we may return to our Heavenly Father and be made perfect through him. Jesus taught that the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, might, mind and strength. The second is like unto it, love thy neighbor as thyself. In my mind, this means any neighbor, not just someone who shares my faith. Donating blood, plasma or platelets is one of the greatest acts of service we can do for another. We are physically giving of ourselves to another person who would not survive without this sacrifice; this type of donation is literally a GIFT of life, a true act of selflessness. I have had many friends and family members who have benefited because of anothers gift of life and I am so grateful to those unknown heroes. I ask people every day to donate blood, platelets and plasma; it is my job and I am 100% committed to doing that job. Tonight I am reaching out as Lesli - friend, member, wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, cousin (the list goes on) and asking all of you to make the commitment to donating blood. This week we are in the middle of a huge snowstorm which will make travel difficult for many in our outlying communities but, here in Billings, we have several thousand members of the church who could walk into the UBS center, this week and truly love thy neighbor as thyself. Please know that I understand there are many who cannot donate blood for various reasons and I respect that! I am reaching out to those of you who can donate and ask you to PLEASE make the commitment to donate at least 3 times in the year 2015. Please know that it is not my intent to judge or anger anyone who may read this post. My only goal is to put a different perspective on loving our neighbors and to educate on the importance of blood donation. I would ask, if you are willing, to please share this post and to help spread the word about this ongoing need. I truly hope to see many people in our centers this week. Thank you for being in my life, for the inspiration and example many of you set for me everyday and for helping spread this message.
