There are a multitude of ways to use essential oils. The most common include: - Inhalation: Breathing in the aroma and holding it in the lungs for as long as possible. - Infusion: Placing the oils in a location where their aromas are diffused throughout the room. Although a multitude of different essential oil diffusers exist, the simple act of placing a few drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and placing it on a saucer in a sunny window will do the trick. - Topically: After sufficiently diluting the essential oil in a carrier oil, apply over the area needing attention. Topical application can be accomplished via massage, poultice, salve/cream, etc. - In Baths (Balneotherapy): Adding 10-15 drops of essential oil to an average sized bath tub is a simple way of getting the oils benefits. Sit and soak for at least 20 minutes. For best results, stir the water with your hand or foot to distribute the oil(s) before getting into the tub. Use extreme caution with any oil that can irritate the skin, such as peppermint, cayenne (!!!), cinnamon, etc. - In Cleaning Products: Oils such as Tea Tree and Thyme which are known to be antibacterial and antifungal are powerful helps in homemade cleaning supplies.
