There are a number of road construction projects taking place this summer near the Spectrum Health Medical Center that will affect patients and visitors. Drivers should anticipate traffic delays and allow for extra time when traveling. They also should use secondary roads when possible. Pedestrians should use bridges and tunnels when possible to cross the streets. The west bound lanes of Michigan Street are currently closed between College Avenue and Lafayette Street. The City of Grand Rapids’ detour route is south on College to west on Lyon Street to north on Lafayette back to College. This construction will hopefully be completed by this weekend. One eastbound lane remains open. Upon completion of the Michigan westbound project, the eastbound lanes of Michigan from College to Lafayette will be closed for several days. One westbound lane from the Medical Center to College will be open. Another significant construction on Michigan is tentatively scheduled to begin on June 22 between Barclay and Bostwick Streets and could last 10 weeks. There will be two lanes closed at any given time but there will be lanes open in each direction. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
