“There are certain sentences that change everything. They can - TopicsExpress

“There are certain sentences that change everything. They can be just a few words, but things will ever be the same again. ‘Will you marry me,’ or, ‘I’m pregnant,’ or, ‘The job is yours,’ are obvious examples of sentences that flip us on our heads and rip the feet out from under us. That’s what makes Ephesians 1: 13-14 so amazing! They are true no matter if you are happy or if you are hurting. One of the many amazing things about Ephesians 1 is how the chapter gathers all of God’s investment in us through Jesus into one sentence. His investment in your life through Jesus Christ ensures His involvement in our lives for all eternity. That is not just good news for eternity, but good news each and every day. It means we are held in place. Being held in place is like the seatbelt we are complacent about or even complaining about when life is calm, but we are mighty glad of when chaos (or a plane) descends more sharply than calculated. Life is massively turbulent and we find ourselves tossed about. Culture teaches us to be self-assured in times likes this, but always leaves us asking, Did I do enough? Can I do enough? True assurance is found in God’s sufficiency for our past, our future, and our present. Jesus paid the price entirely so we could be blessed with eternity. Jesus died for you and me. 2 Corinthians 5: 21 says, ‘For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.’ Jesus knew no sin so before God we would not be known for our sin. His perfect life made the way for us to receive His promised life. He bore our sinful life to break the power of sin in our life. By His being harmed we are healed.” Scott Hamilton
