There are many TV treasures to seek out over the coming year mixing returning favorites with some brand new series. Here in no particular order are some of the shows we are most looking forward to in the coming year. Would you agree with us or have we left out a show your really looking forward to?? True Detective - HBO - Starts Jan 12th Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are 2 agents on the trail of a serial killer in this new series from creator/showrunner Nic Pizallato, who has unusually written the entire first season himself. Penny Dreadful - Showtime - Starts Fall 2014 From director Sam Mendes and writer/creator John Logan comes a Victorian era horror series that brings together Dracula, Frankenstein and Dorian Gray battling their inner demons. The series which stars Josh Hartnett, Eva Green and Billie Piper is currently filming in Ireland. 24: Live Another Day - Fox - Limited Event Series - Starts May Its the much aniticipated return of Jack Bauer and Chloe in a new adventure that takes our hero around Europe. As there are only 12 episodes were very interested to see what happens to the 24 hour clock motif - but we have to wait till April - dammit!! Believe - NBC - Midseason 2014 Despite the number of times this show has already changed its showrunner we are still quite excited about the prospect of Alfonso Cuaron and J.J. Abrams teaming up and the pilot was one of the better ones weve seen from last year with some interesting casting. Bates Motel on A&E - A&E - March We absolutely loved the first season of this show where showrunners Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin have fused the early life of Norman Bates and his mother Norma with a homelife in a reimagined Twin Peaks-like town. The cast, writing and production values on this show are all top notch and if you arent watching you should be. House of Cards - Netflix - February 14th A Valentines gift from Netflix to all House Of Cards fans as all 13 Season 2 episodes debut simultaneously - can showrunner Beau Willimon deliver another knockout season?? We cant wait to find out! By the way if your re-watching Season 1 Netflix have now also added directors commentary to the episodes!! Outlander - Starz - March/April TBC From one of our favorite showrunners Ronald D.Moore comes a new time travel fantasy series based on the books by Diana Gabaldon and starring the beautiful Irish actress Catriona Balfe. Filming in Scotland since October last year were expecting great things from this show. Black Sails - Starz - Starts January 25th Pirates are making a big comeback on TV over the next 12 months with 3 different pirate series in the works but first to arrive is Black Sails from creator/showrunner Jon Steinberg and producer Michael Bay. We saw some footage from this New York Comic Con and were impressed. As an added bonus Season 2 has already been ordered! Legends - TNT - Summer 2014 From the man who brought us Homeland Howard Gordon and creator Mark Bomback comes a new spy series starring Sean Bean about an FBI deep cover agent who loses himself in his disguises only to find he may not be who he thinks he is! RETURNING SERIES WE CANNOT WAIT FOR: Game of Thrones - HBO - Season 4 - nuff said!! True Blood - HBO - Final Season (7th) - because weve watched this far ok!! House of Lies - Showtime - Season 3 - January 12th again if your not watching this show you should be - brilliant cast, sharp, acerbic writing. Episodes - Showtime - January 12th - Season 3 Weve had to wait a very long time for S3 so we hope its been worth it but S1 & S2 were extremely funny and on the nose about making TV shows! Plus Matt Le Blanc as Matt Le Blanc!! SERIES ALREADY AIRING THAT WERE ENJOYING: Sleepy Hollow - FOX - Returns January 13th Really well done show with good writing, acting and production values as well as one or two genuinely scary moments. Already renewed for Season 2! The Blacklist - NBC - Returns January 13th James Spader rules all in this show where we forgive some of the story holes because well James Spader is awesome and Megan Boone is hot!! And because we want to know what the real deal with her husband is!! Already renewed for Season 2. Almost Human - FOX - Returns January 13th We know for a fact how passionately J.H. Wyman invests in a show and its characters and whilst the show is still finding its feet there has been more than enough promise displayed so far for us to want to see what happens next. Bones - FOX - Returning January 10th Despite being in its 9th season (quite an achievement in this day and age) and despite a move to Friday nites this show still delivers a quality hour of well written entertainment which after a 178 episodes is testament to the love and care Hart Hanson and his team put into this show. The Walking Dead - AMC - Returning February 9th Major changes in store for the second half of Season 4 and we cant wait to see what life beyond the prison holds for our band of survivors!
