There are several words that many advocates use, that I don’t tend to use in my own posts. These words are ‘compassion’, ‘kindness’, and ‘love’. Why don’t I use them? I sometimes share posts that use these words and from their writings I know that many vegans and non-vegans have all of these qualities. I have to be honest however and say I don’t think they apply to the reasons why I advocate veganism. I advocate veganism as a moral imperative. Not for compassionate, kind or loving reasons, but because I believe it’s the morally right, respectful, honourable, just and decent way to treat beings that I recognize as having the same moral significance as my own species. When we make non-vegan choices, we are willfully and culpably violating the right of a sentient being NOT to be a slave, NOT to be treated as a thing, as our property to do with as we choose for the most trivial, shallow and selfish reasons. To refuse to abuse, exploit, mutilate, destroy a creature that has never harmed us when we have a myriad alternatives that we can choose is just common decency. Compassion, kindness and love do not necessarily need to come into it. vegankit/
