There are ways to raise questions that open inquiry- that make it our inquiry- and other ways to pose questions that close down communication, ways intended to distinguish between us and them, ways that aim to make myself feel right- more authentic, grounded, and intelligent- by making the other wrong. ~Oriah Mountain Dreamer from THE DANCE Good intentions are not enough. We have to commit to the work of developing skilful means of communication, & we have to look at the times when our means are not skilful & consider our shadow motives (our desire not to communicate but separate & make the other something less-than ourselves.) All the talk of love & compassion is meaningless without a commitment to learning new ways of moving through our day & in our world. One of the banners that hung in the church my family attended when I was a child, read; LOVE IS A VERB. Let the love that we are be what we do today.
