There have been many concerns over sheep handling in Australia for years and the merino sheep have folds in their skins that result in many getting cut at shearing time. Some skin the sheeps rump to reduce the folds Many textile artists in the UK avoid wool from Australia because of this. I suspect that this rouge band of shearers are just that but I will continue to source my fleeces within the UK just in case. I usually buy from local farmers when I can and I pay above the wool board rate to get them. So if anyone wants to part with any unusual fleeces please feel free to contact me.
