There is a big and splendid masjid (mosque) in the trans-Gomti - TopicsExpress

There is a big and splendid masjid (mosque) in the trans-Gomti area of Lucknow and adjacent to masjid there is a qabristan (graveyard) or you can say the masjid and qabristan are in the same compound. Since, masjid is big it has many hujras (room) excluding the main masjid building. In one of the rooms the Imam of that masjid resides and in another there is an office of an NGO (though it is the other matter that NGOisation of Muslim society, day by day, is increasing rather than democratization!). In the qabristan there is jhuggi in which a man lives who is a grave digger—Gorkan, he not allowed to live in any vacant rooms of the compound even he is not allowed to access basic amenities available in the masjid. Some of the Muslim communities are invisible in the main stream Muslim-minority discourse. These invisible communities—Nutt, Bakkho, Halakhor, Gorkan, Mochis and Kalabaj etc.—are untouchable in Muslim society. Islam supports an egalitarian society and presence of caste/class inequality and discrimination are social reality.
