There is a public meeting tomorrow - Wednesday May 21st - from 4-5pm at Julia Randall Elementary School to discuss the Forest Services new plan to enhance off-road motorized vehicle use in the Payson Ranger District (mostly on trails immediately surrounding Payson). This meeting was set-up by community members opposing the plan. Theyve asked me to help spread the word in hopes of getting more of you to show up to help support them. I dont want this post to come across that I am against motorized vehicle use in our forest. I AM NOT. While I am mostly a mountain biker and hiker (I do not own motorized vehicles), I am all for having an official OHV area near Payson (as Im also for having some non-motorized areas around town too). I personally do not like this new Forest Service plan because it seems to be inviting more - out-of-towners - to come to Payson to (potentially) rip it up on trails that immediately surround our community (Houston Mesa, Boulders, Granite Dells, Monument Peak, Round Valley, and the Peach Loop). Those are all trails within the Payson Area Trail System. I would like to see the Payson Ranger District create an official OHV area. I just dont think the Houston Mesa Horse Camp and the Houston Mesa trails are the place to do it.
